Goddess IXCACAO & The Medicinal Benefits of Cacao and why I use this plant medicine daily! And why I use this instead of anything else on Valentines Day rather than indulging in other unhealthy chocolates!
The Goddess of Chocolate/Cocoa had humble but honorable origins as a Mayan Goddess. Named Ixcacao, she was an ancient fertility goddess, an earth goddess in a matriarchal society where gathering crops and seeing to it that everyone was fed was woman's work.
A series of studies from October 1st 2013, published in Nutrition Reviews, showed that, through a systematic review, cacao was found to significantly influence cognitive function and states of mood. Some of these studies indeed reveal a marked improvement in mood state or reduction of negative moods.
The mood improvement aspect of cacao is mainly due to its inherent chemical, “Anandamide”, which is widely known as the "bliss molecule". Other studies clearly demonstrated evidence of cognitive enhancement, as well as alterations in brain activation patterns. Mood states and their associated emotions are big factors in maintaining good states of health. So as you can see, this amazing plant - the root of what has become one of the world’s favourite foods - contains a whole lot of health and medicinal benefits. We can really see now why up to this day, cacao is still widely known as a sacred plant medicine. But this is truly just touching the surface!
Cacao - A Sacred Plant Teacher
The ancient Maya considered cacao to be sacred medicine, and to this day, cacao is regarded as potent Master Plant.
In the tradition of plant medicine shamanism, it is possible to connect with the spirit of the sacred Plant Teacher that is cacao, by relating to it as a sacrament and consuming it in ceremony.
When relating to sacred cacao medicine in this way, you can unlock the spiritual benefits of a deepening apprenticeship with this Master Plant Teacher.
Here are some of the benefits you can receive from cultivating a deeper, spiritual relationship with cacao, by setting specific intentions for your ritual.
In addition to its nutrient-packed health benefits, regular ceremonial cacao consumption can more harmony and balance between mind, body and spirit, through the combination of intention setting, prayer, meditation, and dance.
Tune into any messages cacao may have for you around unhealthy habits you can release, in order to invite more health and happiness into your life.
When drinking cacao, especially when you specifically set the intention for increased creativity, you may find that you are being more open to inspiration, creativity and new ideas. New meaning and purpose in everything begins to surface, and that there are more insights to tapped into.
Deepen Meditation. When focusing only on ingesting and connecting with your cacao drink, a bigger connection to your inner spirit and wisdom is forged.
This allows for more profound levels of meditation and focus is easily maintained on the very present moment. cacao’s calming effects can really take place here, and begin remedying the imbalances of your mind and soul.
Expansion of Inner Peace.
Similar to the above, cacao allows you to be more in tune with your positive and optimistic side. You may find yourself feeling more capable of dealing and dissolving life’s difficulties and hardships. Life’s burdens and stresses will seem to lift more easily from your shoulders.
Increasing Vitality. Cacao provides us with plenty of vitality and what the Maya called "Ch’ulel' - life force energy. It is an energy that provides focus and mental clarity, and if sustained, helping us to control unhealthy cravings that actually rob us of our energy levels, and allowing for a bigger channel for the above mentioned
With all of these amazing benefits coming from one single source. It is obvious why cacao is considered to be a "sacred plant medicine", and why it was so revered and treasured by the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica.
My favorite Cocao beverage:
2 tablespoons of organic raw cacao powder
2 tablespoons of either honey or maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon of Ceylon cinnamon powder
2-3 pinches of cayenne pepper
1 pinch of sea salt
1 cup + 1/4 cup almond milk
Mix together & heat. Serve & enjoy prior to meditation or healing work.
Love always, Cynthia
GREEN TARA~ START DELEGATING
Ask others, including me, to help you, instead of trying to do everything by yourself.
When you feel resentment in your heart it is because you are carrying more that your share of the load. You are not doing any favors for anyone, including yourself. You need to ask for help so that you have quiet time for contemplation and rest.
Sometimes we feel we have to take everything on our own shoulders. That is either because we do not want to burden others or it is usually because we really fear that no one else can truly handle the task correctly and we do the best job at it anyway. It maybe true that you can do a job better than another, but it does not help if you are doing everything and then getting burned out. So, you need to step back and let others help as well. Don’t worry if the task is not done to your standards of perfection, as long as it gets done in a considerable fashion that is great!!
Take some time to meditate with Green Tara, let her know your concerns and worries. Give them to her and allow her to help you find inner peace today!
May the love of the Goddess always be with you!!!
This beautiful card and message comes from The Mystical Shaman Oracle Deck and the timing couldn't be more perfect as we head into Winter Solstice and to the Direction of the North, where the bones of our ancestors lay.
The Ancient Ones are the shamans of old who defeated death and escaped from the tyranny of time. The Ancient Ones once walked the earth like us, in flesh and bone. Now they reside in infinity and can counsel us after we say yes to our calling. They are available to help us attain our full realization.
The Ancient Ones are inviting you to reach to the future to help birth a new destiny for the Earth. Go ahead; find out who you are becoming 10,000 years from now. If you accept the invitation, great power and blessings will come your way and allow you to craft a new destiny for yourself. Do not hesitate to bite off more than you can chew, because you have unlimited spiritual resources available right now.
The Ancient Ones beseech you to examine your attitudes and actions, and be sure that they are of the highest integrity. Not forgiving an ancestor (or yourself) is keeping you from the freedom you seek. Remember this is no longer your karma. You can break the chains that once bound you to the family drama and be free of your generational curses. Forgive the ones you need to release. Honor your biological ancestors by lighting a candle to them tonight.
Amen Aho and so it is.
I often get asked the question, “How did you become a healer? What was your journey like?”
As with most healers, it often begins with a quest of healing oneself.
My personal healing journey has been a long one! I’ve gone through many twists and turns in life. So much so, that I can probably say very few things surprise me anymore. Not so much in a jaded way, but from a place of having experienced many extremes in life.
Cynthia's Healing Journey
I knew there was a part of my life that always seemed to be just out reach. It was as if I was ignoring an essential part of my soul. I was always tired, angry, overwhelmed and stuck on that same road, over and over again.
I was disconnected from my heart, my body, my soul.
Even as a young child, I always had insomnia and anxiety. I was a worrier. I had ulcers at the age of 9. I was small for my age. I never seemed to “fit in”, I was always in trouble at the Catholic school for not following the “rules”. If I’d ever been diagnosed, I suspect it would have been ADHD.
By the middle of 2002, I found myself in a job I I wasn’t happy in. My work situation was toxic, my boss was toxic, but the money was excellent and the hours were great. But I was unhappy. I was abusing alcohol to numb my unhappiness. We were partying a lot. I wasn’t healthy body mind or spirit.
By the end of 2004, everything had escalated and I started getting down on life – I had just woke up from my second wrist surgery and thought what the hell is going on? I just kept getting these ganglions in the joint of my right wrist and they were so painful. So was the recovery process, time after time. Within 3 months of my last surgery, I had somehow conjured up another very large ganglion, right in the same spot and thought oh, god I don’t want to go through this again.
One beautiful summer day, I literally “FELL” into Reiki!!! Yes – I fell off our deck at our campsite, 4 feet straight down, tripped over the dog leash. I knocked the wind right out of myself. I hurt myself badly. At that moment, I lay on the ground crying…I was angry with myself. I was hurt. I was hungover. Again.
It was at that moment when life had kicked me so hard to the ground when the lady across the road from our campsite saw me and came over to help me up off the ground, as I couldn’t get up, I had hurt myself that badly.
In that instant when she reached down to help me up, I had no idea how much my life would be changed through her helping hand.
She told me that she did “Reiki” healing and offered to help me out with a session from my fall. At that time, I had no idea what she was talking about and actually thought she was just a little bit strange with her ideas and beliefs. Up until this time in my life I had never heard of alternative or energy healing – I simply had no idea.
I finally surrendered and allowed her to “do her thing”. When she was finished, I didn’t really know what she had done to me, but I did know that my pain was gone and I wanted to know more about how she did that and I felt amazing! I wanted to know more about how this “Reiki” worked.
Looking back at that time now, I know that it was one of the best things that ever happened to me because it invited me to take a closer look at what was going on in my life and the way I was living it.
I realized that it was my own anxiety, unhappiness at work and in general, my lack of self-care and disconnection from myself that was the cause of my ganglions, anxiety, sleep issues and depression.
I knew it was time to connect with my heart’s desire to reshape my life and live it the way I really wanted to. And that’s what I did. I spent a lot of time taking my next Reiki levels, studying, learning about myself and what I really wanted out of my life.
Through reiki, meditation, and finally, the big one ~ letting go of the notion that I had to stay at the job I was and not follow my passion, which was now energy healing. I put my notice in at work and within one week, my ganglion was completely gone! Wow!
For the first five years following my Reiki First Degree course in 2004, I was physically and emotionally in better health than I could ever remember being— I didn’t even catch a cold in that time— my anxiety and sleep issues were settling down as I treated myself regularly and practiced Reiki friends and family.
I also took my Second Degree course in 2004, and became a Reiki Master in 2005.
I started my business, Essential Energy Healing, but clients were just not coming as fast as I wanted them to, so I ended up taking another part time job to help with support of my business. Within two years of starting that job, I got chronic bronchitis and three serious bouts of pneumonia, then my father passed away from a horrible brain and lung cancer, which spread so fast it knocked our family right off our feet. Within 2 months of my dad passing away, I was sick again. I decided right then and there to do what I was called to do, which was to heal myself and helping others do the same so they wouldn’t have to go through the same stuff as I did.
Because like everyone else I am on my own healing journey, I would describe myself as a “work in progress.” I don’t think it would have been possible to support others and teach Reiki with any real authenticity if I hadn’t experienced some of the health problems I gone through, and therefore healing needs, that I have had over the years.
As has been the case for many healers, my need for help with my own health, and life in general, is what led me to Reiki in the first place. So when I came across Reiki and experienced how wonderful and relaxed it made me feel, it seemed like the answer to a prayer.
But….Throughout that time I continued to live as frantically as I had before I started practising Reiki.
By fall of 2009, even with the help of Reiki and regular meditation, I was burned out, had adrenal exhaustion and ended up taking extended sick leave due to illness.
This experience gave me the chance to reassess my life, But did I really listen to my body or change the way I lived? Not a bit of it. Instead of slowing down, which had been my intention, I found myself continuing teaching Reiki and keeping up with my healing business.
I obviously hadn’t let go of my ways, so after my father died in the summer of 2010, my body came to a halt.
I suddenly developed chronic sinus infections and generally just not feeling very well, and of course it was painful and exhausting. Despite this, I stubbornly tried to continue on with my workaholic ways and continued on with my Reiki business, pushing through regardless weather I really felt like it or not.
Not exactly the best advertisement for a “healer,” I’ll admit, but I hate letting people down, I didn’t know how to say no, so I did what I thought was best for those potential clients and students, rather than what I knew was best for me.
The message from my body got louder.
In June of 2013, I had sinus surgery in the hopes of clearing my sinus issues. In July 2013, I ended up in hospital with a near fatal kidney infection and for the next 2 months my health was so bad that I was in and out of the hospital several times, unable to look after myself because I was too exhausted, full of one infection after another. All the joints in my arms, hands, legs and feet were too painful for me to do anything. For months I couldn’t even get out of bed to shower and eat breakfast by myself, I had no energy at all. I was exhausted to the point of being bed ridden.
I was physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually exhausted. Anxiety and depressive states were creeping back. I was desperately searching what was wrong with me????
In October of 2013, after so many doctor appointments, I was diagnosed with Celiac Dis-ease and and three months later, Systemic Lupus. What the heck?
This experience certainly gave me the time to think again. At first all I could think of was to throw everything I knew at my illness to try to get rid of the symptoms— Reiki, affirmations, meditations, visualizations and just about anything else anyone suggested. I refused to accept that I was actually that sick. No way, not this girl.
But nothing happened. I didn’t get better. And that was the scariest thing. For the previous five or six years, whatever had happened to me—an occasional headache, trapping my finger in a door, spraining my ankle —all I had needed to do was to place my hands on myself and let the Reiki flow, and within minutes, or at the most hours, the pain and swelling had gone. Why wasn’t it working now?
This was one of the darkest times in my life. I became very depressed, and I asked myself this question many times , but eventually I had to acknowledge that I was seriously ill and accept that at least for the time being, my life would have to be different than it had been because I was unable to do most of the things I used to do.
The simple things like going for a walk, doing housework, working my business. None of it was possible. I was continually exhausted. More than exhausted
This is when I began my real healing journey at another level!
When teaching Reiki over the previous few years I had paid lip service to the idea of the underlying causes of ill health, so I knew the theories, but when it came to being ill myself I forgot all about it— or probably more honestly, I hadn’t wanted to consider it. Now I began to examine this idea, to seek an awareness of why I had become ill. By meditating on the issue and seeking guidance from my Higher Self, I began to realize that I had been abusing my body—and for that matter, my mind, emotional self and spirit— by pushing it beyond its limits of endurance. On both a physical, emotional and spiritual level, the many years of stress and not taking care of me and what I had subjected myself to had finally caught up with me, and I needed to radically alter my way of life— permanently.
There are many stages of healing. There are four stages in the self-healing process, and in my desperation I had found two of them—acknowledgment and acceptance.
The spiritual, emotional and most of the mental I had covered. The physical. Not in the least. I did an off again-on again yoga practise, occasionally went for a walk, but that was about it.
So I took action— the final stage in the self-healing process. I took some simple, practical steps, like changing to a healthier diet and eliminating some foods known to aggravate Lupus inflammation and cutting out ALL gluten and sugar in my diet. I changed my attitude to many things, found a team of healing professionals that could support me in a physical way.
All the effort I had put into resisting my illness had been wasted!
By May of 2014 I was feeling like a whole person once again— or at least, whole enough to get some walking and yoga in, meditation and self-healing with Reiki on a daily basis. I started to cook for myself once again which nourished my root chakra, and had some energy to actually do things I wanted.
I still had to sleep during the day 2-3 hours though, so I still had some things to figure out. I was still having issues with food intolerances and finally I ended up doing a full elimination diet, where I found numerous other foods were affecting my energy….eggs, peanuts, legumes…good lord, what is a girl to eat??? Whole foods. Healthy organic foods. Greens. Veggies by the plateful. Water. Lots and lots of hydration.
Although I thought that Reiki had finally got through the layers of resistance, and brought to the surface the understanding of the phrase “what you resist, persists.” I still had a long way to go in my healing journey
I didn’t realize then that all I had really needed to do was to “l Surrender and flow I- the final 2 stages of deep healing.
I didn’t know I needed to stop trying to live my “old” life, and stopped chafing at the bit and feeling resentful because I could no longer rush around “doing” things; instead I needed to get on with my “new” life— just being me. I don’t mean being me in one of the many roles I used to rush around playing— mother, daughter, teacher, business owner, healer, Reiki Master— because they were all masks. I was still putting others needs ahead of my own and felt overwhelmed because I felt I was falling short of who I used to be and was still my own wort inner critic rather than my own best friend. I still had the flawed thinking that I wasn’t enough…I never had the energy to do what I wanted, what I used to do, which was go go go all the time. I wasn’t getting out of bed until 8 or 9 am, when I used to be up at 5 daily.
Where did I learn that I didn’t need those masks? How did I learn to “let go and flow”? How did I really really learn to give up the roles other people wanted me to play, and concentrate on myself, without the guilt of thinking I was being selfish?
Enter my Warrior Goddess Training. One day while doing some research on food intolerances and healthy living, I came across a website called “Warrior Goddess” by HeatherAsh Amara, who had been trained through Don Miguel Ruiz – it caught my attention more so because she had trained through Don Miguel Ruiz who wrote the 4 Agreements, which I shared always in my Reiki Classes.
After doing more research in the Warrior Goddess Training, I discovered that it resonated deeply within my soul and I jumped in with both feet.
My life changed, once again through my WG Facilitator Training.
I learned to move through my resistance, I released my old baggage and my fears of being sick all the time, I reclaimed and strengthened my self respect, I discovered my Goddess energy and opened up to more joy, love and passion. I discovered my Warrior energy. I witnessed my old beliefs that no longer served me and took responsibility for my actions from a place of loving who I was. I was more truthful with myself and found that by sinking into the moments of silence, I opened the door to allowing the essence of my life force to chanel and I started to connect with women who honored and empowered themselves as the women they were meant to be.
I am eating healthy, still sleeping a lot, giving myself lots of Reiki, doing my sound healing with my beautiful crystal bowls and drum, meditating regularly, receiving guidance from my Higher Self, reading numerous books to learn more about myself, my favorite metaphysical subjects, nutrition, relaxing and generally enjoying my more peaceful lifestyle--
My health contines to improve: I am not yet 100 percent healthy, although I have periods when I’m almost there. I still have days that as soon as I open my eyes, I KNOW it’s going to have to be a quiet day, regardless what I have planned, or would like to do. I’ve learned if I push through, as I would have in the past, I would end up in bed for at least a week, at the least a couple of daytime naps.
As I said, I’m still on a healing journey.
But now my attitude is that that’s OK. There are still lessons to be learned, and sometimes I get a Lupus flare-up of , but it is always because there is something I’m not paying attention to, like not eating properly, getting enough sleep or because there are some deeper layers of negativity or blockage that need to be released. As soon as I seek an awareness and understanding of the problem, and take action to put it right, the symptoms die down and I’m fine again. As an analogy, it’s rather like a smoke alarm that goes off to keep you safe by warning you that there’s a fire; similarly, my body goes off (or flares up, always in my chest) to warn me that I’m going off track in some way. It’s my body’s personal safety feature .
Each of us has at least one such safety feature—one area of our body that “acts up” regularly, such as a tendency to frequent headaches, indigestion , throat infections, skin problems or a bad back.
If you take your own Reiki Goddess journey, one of the consequences of increased spiritual development is an increased ability to be aware of such messages from your body, and drawing more and more Reiki Goddess energy into yourself over a period of time will gradually enable you to heal not only the physical symptoms, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual causes of those symptoms.
My life now is totally different than it once was, Reiki & my Goddess Training has brought me all those things I have already suggested it could: wholeness and harmony, personal peace and a sense of purpose, emotional balance and feelings of joy, bliss and fulfillment. I cannot imagine life without it. I am finally at peace with who I am and where I am in my life.
Teaching Reiki & Facilitating my Warrior Goddess Workshops has brought me so much pleasure and satisfaction, and I just love having the chance to play a part in the way that it changes people.
I know that a major part of my life purpose is to continue teaching Reiki and The way of the Warrior Goddess, and I am excited about the future possibilities.
As I continue with my healing journey physically, I am grateful for the lessons I have learned along the way.
So much love to you, Cynthia )o(
From the Earth Magic Oracle Card deck, by Stephen D Farmer:
Wind ~ Activation
The various currents of air that circulate on our planet can be gentle enough to tickle the hairs on our arms or so fierce that they destroy man-made structures, as well as trees and other vegetation. Wind moves the air to circulate the atmosphere and keep it from becoming stagnant. When there is no movement, the atmosphere feels somehow heavier. Gentle breezes help cool the land and pollinate flowers, whereas more tempestuous winds can snap tree branches off and stir something deeply within us. More violent winds can create temporary chaos with their ferocity.
No matter the degree of intensity, wind will activate us. IN this image, the breath of the god of wind stirs the sea and rearranges the sky. As this occurs, the weather shifts. The effects, even in this small area, send ripples throughout, blending and dancing with the water and the sky. It activates the atmosphere and the world feels more alive when there is wind.
The lethargy you feel is the result of a lack of activation – in other world, something that stirs your senses. This could be anything from walking outdoors, feeling the breeze on your body, or inhaling the different aromas that Nature herself provides. Or is could be finding the pleasure in a warm bath that helps you release the tension and stress from your mind and body. Music may activate your hearing, which sparks the pleasure centers in your brain. Art may activate your emotional responses. The touch of another human may activate a deep need to be physically held in some manner once again.
Now is the time for action. Engage in some activity and be fully present so that you forget about your surroundings and enter into that timeless and multidimensional experience of union with the focus of your creative attention. Let you physical body be active. Movement alone – whether quietly dancing by yourself or hiking up that hill over yonder – will require you to be as present as possible in your body. Enjoy!”*
There is nothing more liberating than standing outside with your arms up, palms open, feeling the wind whipping through your hair. The wind has a cleansing effect, as it blows all the negative or low vibrational energies right out of your aura and away into the atmosphere to be dissolved. You feel free and alive as you breathe in the fresh air; particularly if you can be near the ocean, forest or mountains, where the air is the cleanest and full of oxygen, waking up your cells as you breathe it in. The wind is powerful and can help you to feel powerful too; like you can take on anything. It can give you a nudge in the right direction to let go of stagnancy and complacency and stir things up a little.
Again there is synchronicity in the themes lately; stepping out of your comfort zone, gaining perspective, seeking freedom and inspiration. All of these lead back to living your life’s purpose, finding your authenticity and centering with self love and acceptance. It is no coincidence that as I write this I look out my window to see the trees moving and swaying, the clouds flying by in the sky. It’s time for me to get out there and walk the dog. I will take some time to breathe; asking the Divine to cleanse my energy, fill me with strength and whisper guidance on the wind. I have ideas swirling around in my head that will come to fruition soon; I have to organize my action steps and take the leap of faith.
If it’s not windy where you are, don’t worry! It will be windy at the perfect time for you. You can still visualize harnessing the energy and power of the wind as you breathe in some fresh air. You can still raise your palms and your face to the sky and ask for, guidance, love, healing and support. Feel the love flow through you; fully present and consciously allowing and receiving. Your angels love you, the Divine loves you and they are with you, as always, every step of the way.
How Can I Find a Reiki Master Teacher?
The way one "learns" Reiki is different from other types of healing techniques in that the ability to transfer energy is transmitted from Reiki Master to student during an attunement. You can learn about Reiki benefits and how it works by reading articles and listening to others who have experienced Reiki but it takes an attunement or initiation by a qualified Reiki Master to open the channels for you to perform Reiki.
One way to find a Reiki master is to ask friends that practice Reiki with whom they studied. You can also ask local practitioners of other complementary therapies, such as massage or shiatsu, because these practitioners often know other complementary therapy providers. Or you can check bulletin boards in yoga studios and health food stores or inquire if your local hospital has a complementary or integrative medicine service. Since Reiki is used by many people to cope with chronic illness, any local organization that offers services to people with illnesses such as cancer, HIV, fibromyalgia, or diabetes may have a list of community resources.
It is important to note that Reiki is not a standardized practice and so there is no guarantee that anyone using the title "Reiki Master" has the training and experience you seek in a teacher/mentor. For this reason, it's important to inquire into any Reiki master's background, and a credible Reiki master will welcome this inquiry. Cynthia at Essential Energy Healing is a proud member of the Canadian Reiki Association as a Certified Teacher. Why? This ensures a strong code of ethics for myself and my students along with a high standard of teaching at each level.
Many Reiki masters have websites or brochures that describe their training, experience and classes. If you do not find such information, it is reasonable to have a brief conversation to ask some questions.
In addition, be sure to ask about the Reiki master's teaching experience and classes (scheduling, fee, etc).
And finally, ask what opportunities the Reiki master offers for continued mentoring and group practice. Cynthia offers ongoing support and mentorship along with regular reiki shares for you to connect to your self-healing, working with others and to dive deeper into your Reiki practise.
Choose your Reiki master carefully, looking not only for a teacher who has the qualifications you want, but also for one with whom you feel a rapport.
A Reiki Master/Teacher does not have to belong to a professional organization to be a good and reliable teacher, but taking a look at the professional listings is a good place to start. In Canada you can check into The Canadian Reiki Association.
Cynthia has been a Member of the Canadian Reiki Association as a Certified Teacher for over 8 years and has been teaching and practising reiki in Central Alberta for 14 years.
Much love on your healing journey, Cynthia )o(
Smudging does not have to be ceremonial, it can be a part of your daily rituals or practise too. If you need a little boost today, carve out a few minutes to connect to Momma Gaia through your root chakra and Father Sky through your crown chakra.
Take a few deep breaths, inhaling good vibes, renewed energy, magic and strength from the sky and exhale releasing any frustrations sadness or low energy emotions into the earth, allowing her to transform and heal you.
Smudge yourself with some Lavender Custom Sage. By bringing this ally you restore and energize. It replaces chaos with balance and facilitates a peaceful atmosphere. It also attracts loving energies and allies.
Custom Lavender Smudge Blend is available at Essential Energy Healing
Cynthia is a Reiki Master Teacher and practitioner, a Warrior Goddess Facilitator, Wellness Warrior - Lupus Thriver and a moon momma practicing in Central Alberta
SO WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT THINGS YOU CAN USE TO SMUDGE WITH?
A smudge kit usually consists of four of five pieces, each representing one of the four or five elements (Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and sometimes Spirit or life energy):
A shell (abalone shell is most often used) to represent Water
Unlit herbs to represent Earth
Lit herbs to represent Fire
Smoke to represent Air
Sage is one of the most popular plants used for smudging, as the smoke carries an amazing fragrance that lifts the spirits. Even though sage grows abundantly in many locations, the most commonly used sage for burning and ceremonies is desert sage, or white sage.
The smudge sticks you find in witchy stores are most commonly made of sage and sweet grass, both of which play an important role in the smudging process. Sage is used to evacuate the negative energies, spirits and influences, while the sweet grass will gather new and positive energies. Other herbs used for smudging are cedar, juniper and lavender, and plain tobacco is also sometimes used by Plain Indian tribes.
Palo Santo wood from the rainforests in Ecuador was also considered by many to be a Holy Wood, and burning Palo Santo has been used by the Incas since ancient times as a spiritual remedy, for purifying, and cleansing.
AND WHAT ABOUT SMUDGING A SPACE WHERE YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO BURN THINGS?
If your work space does not allow Smudging (most will not), I highly suggest my high vibe Smokeless Smudge Essence Spray!
:: SMUDGING RITUAL: THE BASICS ::
We say we want to make positive changes in our life. We know that we don’t need to have the whole picture figured out, we just have to take small steps towards what we desire each day, yet we find the days and weeks going by and nothing has changed.
We find ourselves trading one hamster wheel for another and look back to realize we have been continuing to let life pass us by without focusing most on what really matters. There is always some new crisis of the day to manage or some urgent thing needing our attention. Then we will start really focusing on what matters.
Well, today is the day all that stops. Today is the day we make focusing on what really matters to us in life a DAILY focus and actually begin implementing small changes DAILY that will begin creating that shift we have been desiring. No more confusion. No more getting distracted by what’s currently consuming our attention and time. No more “I’ll sit down and figure this out later”. No more “I’ll start Monday” or “I’ll start next month”.
Today we start the Make Today Matter Movement!
#MAKETODAYMATTER is a way to take the daily small steps that will create balance and harmony in your life. These simple steps will build upon each other to create lasting change in your life and take the guesswork out of ensuring you are focusing on what is truly important in your life. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Being present and making the most of the moment is the key to happiness and fulfillment in life.
No more lying in bed at night regretting that another day slipped by without you giving attention to what really matters. Because here’s the truth, those nights lying in bed in regret end up turning into lying on your deathbed realizing how much time you wasted on things that, in the end, didn’t matter.
Don’t spend your whole life waiting for tomorrow. Make today matter!
The Make Today Matter Movement involves incorporating 3 easy and flexible steps into your day to ensure there are balance and harmony in all the areas of your life. And here’s the best part. You are probably already taking some of these steps in your day. It’s all about creating balance. If you are already focusing daily on one or more of these areas then you do not need to add anything new.
Just Make Today Matter by making sure that you are doing at least one of these things from each of the three areas. That may mean only one or two worthwhile additions to your day.
The best part is, as the days and weeks go along with you dedicating your time and attention on the things that really matter, the more naturally you will begin incorporating more and more things into your day that are important to you. It will become second nature and your new way of truly living your life will become your new norm.
The steps you will take daily are completely up to you. They can be small or they can be big. The point is to be doing SOMETHING each day in each of these areas that matters to you.
Love and Relationships (Connection) – Your friends and your family, these are probably the most important things in your life, yet our relationships are often the first thing to slide when we get distracted or stressed out by other things in our life. Ensure that every day you are valuing the most important relationships in your life.
This could include steps like:
Health (Feeling Energetic and Vibrant) – Without our health, we don’t have a life to live. All those things you are stressing out about, be it work, finances, or your social life won’t mean a damn thing if you are dead. Taking care of this vessel of ours must be a top priority yet we often sabotage our physical health in an attempt to get further ahead in other areas of our lives. Being healthy and FEELING good is a necessity for enjoying our lives and making moments matter. Make sure that each day you are taking a step towards better, more optimal health.
This could include steps like:
Personal Fulfillment (Giving Attention to Something that is Important and Rewarding in your Life) – This will be a little harder to give examples for as this will be deeply personal. The key is, figure out what is important to you and make sure you are giving attention to it each day. This could be your personal and spiritual development. Working towards your career goals that involve wanting to make the world a better place and improve the quality of life for others. Whatever lights YOU up and fulfills you. Your legacy you want to leave in the world. The key is to make sure every day you are spending some time on what is important to you. This step could even include spending time on figuring out what the heck exactly it is that does fulfill you!
This could include things like:
I recommend taking out your notebook, or journal and brainstorming what steps feel good to you to begin taking in each area.
You can implement different steps each day or you can decide on one step in each area you would like to incorporate every day for a week or a month until they become part of your routine and then build on them by adding another down the road. Do what feels good and feels fun to you.
Don’t worry about what I’ve suggested or what you think you “should” be doing or what other people are doing.
Don’t let another day slip by where you’ve done nothing more than bust your butt trying to pay your bills then zoning out in front of the TV or smartphone.
I really want to start seeing people focusing on what really matters to them. Please share the #MAKETODAYMATTER Movement with your friends and family. Let’s make this movement go viral!
It’s time we stop putting so much attention on trying to look successful and perfect in this society and create a shift in focus towards what’s really important. Team up with some friends to stay accountable and use the hashtag #MAKETODAYMATTER. Let’s do this!
You may find it encouraging to keep track of your progress each day in your planner or journal and I also invite you to share what steps you are taking each day to Make Today Matter.

A GODDESS IS A DIVINE BEING EMBODIED IN A FEMININE FORM. SHE’S ONE WHO IS REVERED FOR POSSESSING SUPERNATURAL POWERS. ANCIENT PEOPLE AROUD THE WORLD ONCE WORSHIPPED THE GODDESS IN HER MANY FORMS – FROM THE BRAVE HUNTRESS TO THE EROTIC LOVER.
HER MOST CENTRAL ROLE WAS THE FEMINIE CREATOR…..
THIS DEEP HONORING OF THE MOTHER GODDESS WAS ASED ON THE EARLY COMUNITIES DIRECT, INTIMATE, AND SYMBIOTIC RELAITONSHIP WITH THE EARTH.
GODDESS = SACRED FEMININE REFERS TO THE CONSICOUS EXPRSION OF ALL FEMININE TRAITS, QUALITIES AND VALUES THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE WHOLE, AND ARE THEREFORE HOLY.
ANCIENT GODDESS TEACHINGS AND TRADITIONS FOCUSED ON SELF-KNOWLEDGE THROUGH THE GETTING OF WISDOM. WISDOM TEAHINGS WERE HIGHLY PRIZED AND RITUALISTIC CUSTOMS DEVELOPED TO HELP PEOPLE GROW THEIR WISDOM.
CONTRACRY TO OUR MODERN MISCONCEPTION, A GODDESS IN NOT A WOMAN WHO POSSESSES MORE SEX APPPEAL THAN THE MERE MORTAL WOMAN. THIS IDEA WAS PERPETUATED BY THE EARLY HOLLYWOOD FILM IDUSTRY WHICH PORTRAYED SOME OF IT’S FEMALE STARS AS GODDESSES – LEADING THEM TO BE WORHIPED. THE RESULTING LEGAY LEFT MANY WOMEN FEELING LESS THAN DIVINE BY COMPARSSION.
THE TRUTH IS….EVERY WOMAN IS A GODDESS, ONCE SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT SHE’S INHERENTLY DIVINE BY DESIGN.
WHEN WE START MAKING THIS SHIFT WITH IN, WE START HONORING OURSELVES ACCORDINGLY IN OUR CHOICES. THE GODDESS MOVEMENT IS CHANGING THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE AND CREATING LEGACY FOR OUR DAUGHTERS AND IT’S AN EXCITING TIME TO BE IN A FEMALE BODY!
WE ARE EMERGING FROM APPROX 5,000 YEARS OF PATRIARCHAL ONDITIONS: A MINDSET AND CULTURE WHICH TAUGHT THAT THE DIVINE HAD AN EXCLUSIVELY MALE EXPRESSION, WHILE CASTING THE FEMININE AS AN EVIL TEMPTRESS WHO OUT NOT TO BE TRUSTED. THIS PERSPECTIVE IMPACTED ALL LAYERS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE AND RESULTED IN WOMEN BEING VALUED PRIMARILY FOR THEIR ATTRATIVENESS TO MEN AND THEIR ABILITY TO BEAR SONS.
THIS MINDSET ALSO RESULTED IN WOMEN BECOMING MARGINALIZE AND PRVENTED FROM HOLDING POSITIONS OF EXTENAL POWER.
FORTUNATELY, THE RETURN OF THE SACRED FEMININE IS BEING CHAMPIONED BY BOTH MENA AND WOMEN DEDICATED TO RESTORING THE SACRED BALANCE.
PERHAPS MORE IMPORTANTLY THOUGH, WHEN WE HEAL THE FEMININE IN OURSELVES – A PROCESS WE’LL LEARN THROUGH THIS GODDESS SISTERHOOD CIRCLE, WE CREATE A RIPPLE EFFECT WITHOUT OUR OVERTLY MASCLINE CULTURE.
AT THE 2009 VANCOUVER PEACE SUMMIT WE ALL HEARD ABOUT THE DALAI LAMA “THE WORLD WILL BE SAVED BY THE ESTERN WOMAN.” HE WAS IMPLYNG THAT WOMEN IN THE DEVLOPED NATIONS HAVE THE FREEDOM AND THE MEANS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
IT STARTS HERE
IT STARTS WITH US
TO HEAL THE SACRED BALANCE, WE ALL NED TO QUESTIONS OUR VALUES, BELIEFS WE RECEIVED WHILE GROWING UP IN A CULTURE THAT HAS DENIED, RIDICULED AND MINIMIZED THE SACRED FEMININE. (Source: Tanishka)
